Maintaining Your Jetski
Tips in Riding your Jet Ski Safely
Jet Skiing may be a fun and exciting but like any other water motor vehicle, it can be dangerous with improper use. Here are some safety tips for you to follow in order for you to fully enjoy your jet ski ride and avoid the risks of getting accidents on the water.
First, you have to know how to run the machine before hopping in. This is a very simple step that you must not fail to neglect especially if you are going to take it to the waters. A jet ski can run the same way as with a motorcycle or a snowmobile but you still need to know how to run a jet ski in particular.
Do not forget to wear life preservers. Much as wearing helmets is required when riding a motorcycle, it is also a must for you to wear a life jacket when driving or simply riding a jet ski. Even if you know how to swim, it is still better to be safe than sorry. You also need to wear the appropriate gear when jet skiing. This includes gloves, goggles and wet suit so you can be sure that you are riding in safety and comfort.
Remember not to ride too close to another watercraft. jet ski accidents are usually caused by collisions. In order to prevent this from happening to you, stay away from another watercrafts, divers, rafts or swimmers at least 100 feet away from them. Follow the rules and guidelines that are set in beaches and lakes with regard to jet skiing.
Avoid jet skiing at night. This is because open sea is dangerous during nighttime. Especially when it is pitch black, you can never tell whether there is thre presence of other watercrafts or other bodies at night. Also, it is usually difficult for others to see you out on the water or get help from others at night.
Moreover, do not ride a jet ski without lanyard. A lanyard is important because it cuts the engine automatically in case you fall from the jet ski. A lanyard can spare you from swimming back to the shore alone with your jet ski still out on the water.
Lastly, be conscious of the rights of others. Sure, you may be having a blast riding your jet ski but that should not cause you to be an annoyance to other people. Remember that you do not have the water all to yourself so you also need to be mindful of others who may not want to be distracted by the sounds or waves you make while jet skiing.
